Why I Don’t Use AI in My Finished Artworks
Generative AI has changed the way images can be created. It has also changed the conversation around authorship, originality and the role of the designer.
I have always approached digital art as a hands-on process. My work starts with an idea, references and visual decisions that I develop through composition, photography and digital editing.
For my finished artworks, I currently choose not to use generative AI.
That does not mean I reject new technology. AI can be useful for research, brainstorming and exploring possibilities. But for the final image, I want the creative decisions and execution to remain my own.
For me, digital art is not about reproducing an idea as quickly as possible. It is about developing the idea and making decisions along the way.
Photoshop and digital compositing give me enough freedom to do that by hand.
For now, that remains the approach behind the finished work in my portfolio and artbook.
